.: Style
GoGoLingo's style is cartoony and fun for any child. The art is adorable and consistent throughout the whole experience.
The characters and locations within Lingo Land are very recognizable and one can't help but feel compelled to care for their Little Lingo. Even the animation of it eating is adorable!
.: Plot
GoGo Lingo actually has a strong plot. You are first introduced to Gogo Lingo, who pleads for you to care for a Little Lingo, an adorable little... raccoon looking critter. Not long after, you are told about the
Mumzi King, the evil tyrant who wants to turn the whole world into a silent, non-speaking "utopia" just like his own Mum Castle. His minions are the Little Mumzi's, and their goal is to disrupt you.
.: Safety
GoGoLingo.com is very safe, and encourages parent involvement the whole way through.
Although parents are encouraged to communicate via the Parents-Only forum, as of this writing, children cannot interact and so there is little to no risk posed to them as they play the game.
.: Gameplay
As you play games, you are naturally introduced to vocabulary and
phrases (they actually slowly transition to your target language over
time). As you interact with the games/vocabulary, occasionally you are
thrown into a game show called "Win that Card!", which acts as a quiz
mechanism to test your knowledge. Get it right, and the card goes into
your collection as a known word!
Additionally, every so often the Mumzi King strikes, stealing a Card.
When this happens, you have to quest to his castle and demand your card
back. The only way to win it is to challenge the Mumzi King in a
vocabulary show down. Get this one right, and you get to keep your
card. Get it wrong, and he keeps it for good (or until you get to win
it again in the game show).
Along the way you feed your lingo, perform special tasks, and buy other
interesting items, using stars you collect while playing each game.
GoGoLingo.com does a great job of making learning a foreign language fun and interesting, keeping your attention the whole time.
.: Community
GoGoLingo's child-to-child interaction is Nil. However, GoGoLingo.com has a panel of experts in language learning who provide parents with a wealth of knowledge and information on how to best teach their child (parent involvement is highly encouraged).
Additionally, there is a special parents-only forum for parents and the staff of GoGoLingo.com to all interact.
