.: Style
The look and feel of the avatar and site design is definitely well thought through. Their take on the paper doll world is quite visually appealing. There
is a great deal of customization available including: facial components,
clothing, weapons/accessories, and oddball additions. For instance, turkey legs are an option. The originality scale isn’t tipped in any
drastic way but they have certainly taken influences from the best of the best, similarities to Gaia and Millsberry are noteable. Being that it is a children's network, you get a sence that they are playing to the saturday morning cartoon crew.
.: Plot
The site is built on the backbone of the cartoons that they
air, like Bobby’s World, Pet Alien, and Mix Master. However, there is a major
disconnect with the avatars. I'm not clear on how they work into the master
game at all. In fact, there may be no connection at all.
The content refresh is fair but not all that impressive.
What is fun is that there is tons of video to keep you occupied. If you’re looking
to kill some time with cartoons, this is the place to be. It also makes them
very original when considering the fact that no other games offer that.
All in all, there is no over arcing storyline so there is no need to over exhaust the "plot" description.
.: Safety
Kabillion has taken the hard line approach to security. They
abide by the C.O.P.P.A. standards for the most part. Their sign-up process
makes the distinction between twelve and under and thirteen plus. They
obviously screen user submitted content and comments which creates a void of
obnoxious users spamming inappropriate or offensive nonsense.
In terms of
identity laundering, they have none. If you are an apt player then you won’t
run into any problems here. Obviously, you shouldn’t send your password to
someone with the hopes of gaining a great high score or a mass of Kachings but
that’s a given in any game.
.: Gameplay
Their flash games are fun and they have a couple that are
down right addicting. You have to try Dinko Slingshot. The art for the games is beautiful and offers a lot in the way of neat
animation.
The games are all programmed in Flash so they are accessible
on both PC and Mac. The economy element is way cool.
Kabillion has a virtual
currency called Kachings. Kachings make it possible to purchase accessories and
personalization add-ons for your Kabillion avatar. There are no multiplayer games here so if that is your cup
of tea then steer clear and there are no, at this point, pets to speak of. The games are where Kachings are earned, in addition to user
contributions. In other words, you can earn points for posting on the boards,
winning a caption contest, or winning some other contest. They still have some
room to grow in this arena.
The sound effects and music on some of their games is way
cool. The Bobby’s fish game has a sound track that reminds us of the original television
show from the 90s.
In terms of creating the desire to spend hours and hours
here, we see potential but the certainly have some work in front of them.
.: Community
They have a message board
which updates seldom at best. They have a buddy list system but it isn’t
apparent how to message your friends, if it’s possible at all. The staff show up from time to time and are friendly but it
isn’t obvious how to interact past the boards. I found the members enjoyable
yet not that impacting the same. There
are no Guilds here, nor will you find a way to faction it up. There is no
multiplayer component and no personalized member interaction. In terms of competition, there are message boards and a
bunch of different high score tables. But you can’t challenge other users to
much of anything, if anything.
They have a “who’s on” box which is cool because it gives
you the feeling that you’re not along but you can’t do much with it, other than
look at the users profile page and peep their avatar/hangout.
